Horse Racing

 

All of these photographs were taken over 2 visits to Catterick race course. I decided to concentrate on jumping events for the action. This is one of the easier sports that I have tried because you know exactly where the action is going to be. Just a case of focus on the fence and wait.....and wait! Everything happens in about 8 seconds and then its back to waiting. The best option is to take lots in that 8 seconds each time they come around otherwise you'll go home with about 10 shots on your film. Slower film possible here. These are all on fuji 400 asa. 1/250 will freeze the horses if head on though faster required if side on. Try panning with slower speeds or allow some movement to give a feeling of speed.
