 Tommy's plight.

It's usual at this time of year,

To see pigeon men with all their gear.

Into cars and vans they pack their young 'uns,

Then it's up onto the moors for their training runs.

Tom was no different, his baskets were placed,

Into his car, all neatly spaced.

One on the backseat and one in the rear,

Everything normal, it would appear.

So far on the journey and something's not right,

Flapping and fluttering that gave Tom a fright.

The catch had come open, the birds had come out,

Tom's situation had left him in doubt.

He had birds on each shoulder and some on his knee,

Should he turn back or just set them all free?

Oncoming traffic all stared with dismay,

They could not believe at Tom acting this way.

The birds on the dashboard all leant to the right,

As Tom turned a corner not realising his plight.

He'd continue his journey; the moor was not far,

Poor Tom was oblivious to the state of the car.

On the Moor Top, Tom opened the doors,

Then saw such a sight that then caused him to pause.

The birds could not care less as they all took flight,

The car seats were covered in feathers and shi... .

What could he tell Margaret, he quickly must think,

It proved really hard amongst all of the stink.

By the time he got home  Tommy's heart had sunk low,

As for Margaret's reaction, Tom did not know.

Tom parked up the car and then Margaret appeared,

This was the one thing that Tommy had feared.

Then Jasper came bounding, out to greet Dad,

Both were bemused as to why he looked sad.

"Let me explain" Tommy started to say,

"I have a slight problem, it's just not my day"

"What have you done now?" Margaret asked Tom

Then seeing the car was like dropping a bomb.

"Don't worry, I'll clean it!"  "You certainly will"

Tommy's misfortune had given Margaret her fill.

When the car was all cleaned and things had calmed down,

Margaret's reaction was 'Tommy, you clown'

"When you said take the pigeons out for a ride"

"I didn't think you had meant, literally inside!"

This was an adventure he'll never forget,

And at the end of the day Tom is still Margaret's 'pet'.
