Hi this is Ruth, married to Ian and mum to the canines on the front page. I have been involved with dogs for most of my life as my family have always been dog mad. I first came across Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in Australia when living out there during the 1960's. My dad promised to buy me one for my 21st birthday once we returned home to the UK. He was true to his word and my attachment to this delightful breed of dog started and has continued to this present day. I have never wanted to breed them, but did get involved with showing them for some time, although I prefer to watch the shows rather than participate. My favourite pastime involving the breed is in collecting their pedigrees in my database and have the pedigrees of nearly 40,000 dogs. This can be very valuable for researching hereditary diseases and there is ongoing research at this present time in Cavaliers.
Ian and I moved to Skinningrove almost two years ago on retirement. Having been born in a village I know that it can take some time for newcomers to be accepted. Not a bit of it in Skinningrove, people couldn't be friendlier nor more helpful. Our new neighbours had the kettle on for us on the day we moved in, and have been there for us ever since. I wanted to become involved in the Community and so when an opportunity arose, I joined Link Up which in turn has led to the creation of this website which has combined my love of dogs with my other hobby of computing.
The laughter on a Tuesday morning when Steve, Margaret, Janice, Vanessa and I get together in the Riverside Building to edit our sites is the perfect tonic and I am very grateful to them all and to all the villagers for making us feel so welcome. Skinningrove is a hidden gem and still has the community values of my childhood that I thought were long forgotten. Situated in a beautiful valley with wonderful views of the sea what more could we ask for ?. . . . . . perhaps one thing. . . . . . . . . that we had moved here years ago!
